Laptop Batteries
The advent of laptop had made many dreams come true. Many of the
things, which no one can imagine a few years bask, have now become
possible. Laptop has enabled us to done impossible, by providing us
portability, freedom to move and work and get connected without wasting
our time in travelling to certain place to get our work done.
Now it depends all upon the ability of the laptop’s battery how long it
can provide power to the laptop to keep the laptop alive. To avail all
these opportunities you must have a longer battery time so that your
work continues without recharging for a longer period. Most of the
laptops deplete the battery completely in just 3 hours. There are some
tips and tricks to make your battery work for a longer period.
Hibernate or Sleep
If you want to take rest during your work for a bit longer period, put
your laptop to sleep or hibernate your laptop. This will save a lot of
useful battery for your future work whilst you have the freedom to
resume your work later from the same position, in the same manner where
you have left your work.
Dim Your Screen
Most laptops come with the ability of power management. You can dim
your screen; control your cooling fan speed. You can minimize these
expenses to work your battery for a longer period.
Switch To Power Saver Plan
With modern laptops, there is a facility to set power plans for your
laptop. If you are not using an application, which requires high power
i.e. high processor speed etc., you can switch to a low power saver
plan. This will save sufficient amount of power for your ongoing
demands.
Disable The Wireless Connection
Most laptops come with a built in a built in Wi-Fi card. This consumes
a lot of your battery power. It is better to turn it off or switch to
Ethernet connection, if possible, which uses far less battery.
Cut down On Programs Running In The
Background
Messenger, Internet explorer, Windows media player network
sharing ability, etc. All these add to the CPU load and cut down
battery life. Shut down everything that is not crucial when you are on
battery.
Cut Down External Devices
USB devices (including your mouse) drain down your laptop
battery. Remove or shut them down when not in use. It is understood
that charging other devices (like your iPod) with your laptop when on
battery is a surefire way of quickly wiping out the charge on your
laptop battery.
Work For The Longer Life Of Your
Battery
Almost all notebook batteries are now the Li-ion type. These batteries
do not have problems with memory effect, but Li-ion batteries will lose
effectiveness if they are overcharged. For example, if you rarely use
the battery and keep the laptop plugged in, the battery will lose
effectiveness. There can also be problems if the battery is fully
charged and then not used, then charged again. On average, laptop
batteries should last for about 2-4 years or 500-1000 charges. However,
depending on the type of battery you have, a poorly conditioned battery
can begin to lose effectiveness even within the first month of use.
Laptop batteries are expensive ($100-$300) so take steps to make yours
last.
